Yes, we follow the ethical rules of professional conduct, and use written fee agreements with our clients.

This is insurance you buy that pays claims made against you by another driver who is suing you.  Please never purchase the minimum.  It is not enough.  The minimum amount in Connecticut is $25,000.00.

This is insurance that is part of your auto policy that protects you when another driver caused you harm, and that driver does not have enough insurance to cover your losses.

Medical payments coverage is coverage on your auto policy that pays your medical bills from a car accident regardless of whether you were at fault or not.

No fault coverage on your automobile policy covers medical bills up to a reasonably small limit regardless of fault.  For claims below that limit, you can’t sue, and are limited to the no fault coverage.  For claims that exceed the no fault threshold, you can sue. New York and Massachusetts both have no fault rules. Connecticut and Rhode Island do not use no fault.

In any car accident, your lawyer will want to see your policy.  The reason for this is to review what insurance is available.   If the other driver does not have enough coverage to pay for all of your harms and losses, you might have an Uninsured/ Underinsured Motorist (UIM) claim.  For more information about a UIM claim see our blog post about UIM, and our page about UIM claims in Connecticut

An insurance policy is not a short document.  If you have only a page or two, that is not the whole policy.  The declarations page is a summary page in the front of the policy that contains the coverages.  The declarations page might be one or two pages.  When your lawyer asks for the policy, they typically need the whole policy.  The entire policy will easily exceed 25 pages, and is sometimes longer.
